Volunteer

Save a Gato wouldn't be possible without our dedicated volunteers. There are many ways you can help us make a difference. Email us at saveagatopr@gmail.com or send a message on Facebook to become a volunteer today!

BECOME A VOLUNTEER IN OLD SAN JUAN

Volunteer on the Paseo

Become a caretaker of a colony of cats in Old San Juan. You can join a team of volunteers who feed, monitor and care for these colonies.

Volunteer at Casita

Volunteer at the Save a Gato facility in Old San Juan. Here we have cats who are sick or injured, as well as those who are going through the Trap, neuter, and release (TNR) and adoption programs. Volunteers provide clean food, water and litter boxes and provide socialization for the cats in our care.

Trap cats

Join the team that humanely traps unsterilized cats that are pregnant, sick or injured in Old San Juan in order to carry out the TNR program.

Transport cats

Provide transportation to veterinarians and shelters where cats are spayed or treated for illnesses. Volunteers bring cats to the airport so they can fly to their new home or no-kill shelters we partner with in the states.

Assess cat behavior

If you have experience with cat behavior, you can help us understand the personality of our new cats so we can help them socialize and find homes.

Foster a Gato

Become a temporary home for cats and kittens that need special care.

Photographer

Having good quality photographs on Petfinder and Facebook can make a huge difference for our cats. We need photos that show off the personality of our cats so people want to meet them. All you need is a digital camera!

FUNDRAISE FOR SAVE A GATO

Hold a fundraiser for Save a Gato

Coordinate events like bake sales, yard sales, or sponsored walks to raise money for our organization. You could plan fundraising and educational events at schools and teach children how to treat and care for animals. You could have a collection jar in your office or at your next party. You could even make Save a Gato part of your wedding registry! Every donation counts to help our cats!

Grant writing

Running a nonprofit organization requires thousands of dollars each year to cover medical costs and transport costs. We are always looking for individuals to help us apply for public and private grants.

WANT TO HELP WHEN YOU VISIT PUERTO RICO ON VACATION?

Be a Save a Gato volunteer for a day

Do you love cats and visit Old San Juan on your holidays? Spend part of your day helping Save a Gato to make a difference. Be part of our group that cares for cats at Casita in Old San Juan or the team that feeds and cares for colony cats along El Paseo.

PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR OUR MISSION

Write a letter supporting Save a Gato's management of the colony of cats in Old San Juan

Write a letter to the Tourism Company of Puerto Rico about the work we do helping stray cats in Old San Juan. Or write a letter condemning animal abuse on the island and explaining how investing financial resources in Save a Gato can reduce the overpopulation of cats on the street.

Help Save a Gato make connections with "no-kill" shelters in your area

In Puerto Rico, it's kitten season all year round! Save a Gato is always looking for new opportunities to get forever homes for our cats. We are interested in making connections with "no-kill" shelters in the United States.

Social Media

We need people who are interested in helping Save a Gato keep our followers informed of ways to get involved, cats available to foster or adopt, recent adoptions, or how to donate. We have to keep Petfinder updated with nice pictures and personality description of our cats so they can find forever homes. You can help develop this content or even share our posts on Facebook and Instagram.

Gather Supplies

You can search websites or Facebook for items being given away like towels, sheets, cat carriers or crates, and donate them to Save a Gato.
